Alps to Ocean
Explore the region on two wheels!
The Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is one of New Zealand’s great rides! And goes right past the front gate of Mount Cook Station.
Suitable for all ages, the trail is an easy grade and offers a pleasing mix of on and off-road trails which link the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean.
The 301 km trail begins in the Southern Alps beneath the peaks of Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, descends 780 m through the Mackenzie Basin to Lake Ohau, and then down the Waitaki Valley before finishing at Oamaru and the Pacific Ocean. The trail has multiple access points to cater for both multi and single-day riders of all fitness levels and is well-serviced by established accommodation, food outlets and amenities in many of the towns along the trail.
Allow 4-6 days for the entire ride, or try out a day excursion from Mount Cook Station.
Whichever option, the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail is sure to be a memorable experience. Alternate starts can be located on the eastern side of Lake Pukaki or Lake Tekapo.
